Summary of case: The employee is the only man left of six men in pre-war times. He is a married man with three children. He was granted exemption until 31 March 1917 until a substitute was found. No substitute of the same experience has been found. His employee manages 3 stallions and at present looks after between 60 and 100 visiting brood mares, foals and young stock, also 46 cart horses. He is the only man who can give them the proper attention. The stock is valued at approximately £5000. He does a large amount of breaking in young horses and works long hours and Sundays. In November 1916 he was examined by Dr Raines who certified he was not fit for General Service having undergone an operation and any exertion would cause a serous rupture. [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/2182]
