Summary of case: Wray was a hairdresser and the Registrar of Births and Deaths in Leyburn. He supported a widowed mother, brother and sister, and had two brothers in the army. He was the only hairdresser in the town. On 1 March 1917 he was granted a temporary exemption until 1 June 1917 by the local tribunal. The military representative appealed against this decision: ‘That no special or extraordinary hardship is shown to ensue if this man is called up for service. This man is 30 years and passed for B1.’
