Summary of case: In February 1917, Robinson was granted a temporary exemption by the Local Tribunal until 1 May 1917. He was the only boot and shoe maker in the area and also repaired harnesses for local farmers. He had a wife and two children, farmed five acres of meadowland, and three fields of low pasture, and milked two or three cows. The military representative appealed against this decision: ‘Thai it is inexpedient considering the man’s age and the category on which he is passed that he should continue to be retained in his present occupation.’
