Summary of case: Archbold was employed in Leicester in the Boot, Shoe and Gentleman’s outfitters, and was given a temporary exemption which expired on 31 January 1917 by Leicester local tribunal. At work, he was transferred to the Redcar branch, as it was necessary to have a man in charge for measurements etc. He was responsible for all book keeping and cash, and supervision of staff in the two branches. The company workforce has changed from being predominantly male to female due to the war. He was married. The local tribunal dismissed the appeal as the Gentleman's outfitters were a new business, only being established in the last two years and his work was not of national importance.
