Summary of case: Branston has two elderly parents and is a carting contractor and small holder. He has a number of horses, some of which he has bred for the government. He is engaged in cutting and bailing hay for local farmers and provides a carting and delivery service as well as maintaining his own small holding. He thinks he works very hard and could not assist in the war effort any way better. The local tribunal had granted a two month further exemption, but feel the time has arrived when he would be of more service to the country in the army. This was upheld by the North Riding Tribunal
