His father is deaf and his mother requires nursing care on a regular basis, this is supported by a letter from the doctor. Hawkswell also has eye sight problems and recruitment office certified he was passed fit for sedentary work only. Local tribunal refused his appeal stating that father, although deaf, takes a part in the business and daughters knew the business also, indicated an ineligible man could be substituted in place of the appellant. Military representative agreed.
