Summary of case: The employers had appealed to the local tribunal against White's conscription on 3 Oct 1916 on the grounds that he was essential in a department which had lost most of its male staff and was engaged in contracts for the War Office. Temporary exemption to 6 Jan 1917 was allowed, with permission to appeal again. A further exemption was refused as the local tribunal felt that the firm should have made alternative arrangements by then. The employers appealed against this decision.
