Summary of case: Appellant was a mason at Ravensworth also 1/2 mile away at Forcett and Eppleby on the estate of Mrs Mitchell. He also had several small contracts for mason work. He is helping to support a large extended family. The local tribunal very carefully considered the cases of three masons from the village and decided that Mr Atkinson together with a Mr Wardle could be spared and gave exemption to the third man as he did not pass fit for general service.
