Summary of case: He is the only experienced man employed in the nursery and attempts to find a replacement, including through the Women's Labour Association, have been unsuccessful. The local tribunal granted him temporary exemption in the national interest until 1 May 1917. The military representative appeals against this and states: ‘Being a category A man and not engaged in work of national importance, and also it is understood that the work at the nursery requiring skilled supervision is about to be discontinued in order that vegetables and other market produce may be grown, the services of this highly skilled man will no longer be required. Therefore this man should be released for the army.’
