His application was dismissed by the local tribunal as he has four sons (one of them the 15 year old referred to) and one should join the army. His father appeals against this: ‘This is the only man I have for the heavy lifting as I am not able to do it myself and if he is compelled to join the forces it would mean that the farm would not get worked and would not be able to produce the maximum production which is most essential at the present time.’
