Five workers including his brother have already joined the army and his father, aged 77, is bedridden. His father has been unable to employ a shepherd over military age and has one horseman and young lad for the farm. Fletcher claimed exemption on the grounds of domestic hardship as he also provides a home for his 88 year old grandmother.
