Three out of his Mr Cooks four sons have already joined up. He states that his family have done all they can for the defence of the country. The local tribunal gave him a conditional exemption as long as he remains in his current occupation and joins the Volunteer Training Corps. The military representative appealed against this decision as he stated that continuing as a boot maker was not in the national interest.
