Summary of case: In December 1916 the local tribunal withdrew his exemption on the application of the military representative. His appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal pointed out that he had only been passed C1 and his present work was of greater national importance that he could perform at this grade in the army. ‘He is assisting in the work of dispensing medical, sanatorium and sickness benefit to the civilian population and also to wounded soldiers and sailors. He is also in charge of a large corps of cadets for training and other purposes.’
