Summary of case: His employer applied for exemption as he was essential to the running of the farm which supplied meat to a number of military hospitals. The local tribunal felt that the employer should be able to do the work himself and granted only temporary exemption to 1 December. He applied for further exemption on the same grounds and the matter was postponed over the busy Christmas period to 12 Jan 1917. On that date the local tribunal refused further exemption.
