Summary of case: William Barker’s appeal states that his father, to whom he is horseman is 71 years old and would not be able to continue farming if William had to join the colours. These are letters after the date of the decision of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal from the military representative asking for a review of the case stating that Barker has not fulfilled the condition of his exemption, in that he has not joined the Volunteer Training Corps. He further states that this causes dissatisfaction in the district when he lives close to the drill hall and yet has not performed the training programme laid down. There is a copy of a letter sent to William Barker from H G Thornley, Clerk to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal stating clearly the conditions of Barker’s exemption and that this is stated on his exemption certificate.
