Summary of case: One son is already in France. James Lunn’s father is in poor health and needs help with his business. He asked the local tribunal for an extension until 1 June 1916, when he has got the crops in. Alexander Lunn is then happy for his son James Lunn to go into the armed services. The local tribunal decision was “Claim not allowed”. His appeal to the North Riding appeal tribunal asks that his son is given time to wind up the business and pays back the advance he gave him. He adds “even if it had been a month we would have been satisfied and if this claim is not considered reasonable it will show that there is not much encouragement given for a man to build up a business nor yet for him to go and fight for a country that would treat him in such a way.”
