Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 270 Appeal against conscription of: James Lunn Age: 31 Address: Spring Street, Easingwold Occupation: General dealer in coal trade Local tribunal: Easingwold Rural District Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act Grounds for appeal: Not stated Appellant: Alexander Lunn, father Summary of case: One son is already in France. James Lunns father is in poor health and needs help with his business. He asked the local tribunal for an extension until 1 June 1916, when he has got the crops in. Alexander Lunn is then happy for his son James Lunn to go into the armed services. The local tribunal decision was Claim not allowed. His appeal to the North Riding appeal tribunal asks that his son is given time to wind up the business and pays back the advance he gave him. He adds even if it had been a month we would have been satisfied and if this claim is not considered reasonable it will show that there is not much encouragement given for a man to build up a business nor yet for him to go and fight for a country that would treat him in such a way. Supporting evidence: No Date and decision of North Riding Appeal tribunal: 3 Apr 1916. Appeal withdrawn |
