The local tribunal agreed a temporary exemption to 31 Dec 1916 on condition he remained in his present work and joined the Volunteer Training Corps. His appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal was on business grounds: they had heavy stocks amounting to over £7000, partners had enlisted, and it had proved an impossibility of finding replacements. The local tribunal thought Kendra had had time to remedy this and also said the Advisory Committee recommended that he should go
