Summary of case: Without Bowman, his employers could not stay in business. The military representative said Bowman was too young to be considered indispensable. The exemption was withdrawn and another appeal was made. York City Council tribunal said that the Butchers Association considered the cases of all slaughtermen in York and considered Bowman should join the forces. An older brother of Bowman had already been granted conditional exemption.
