There was also a question as to his fitness for military service. On 12 December his application was refused but the military representative agreed not to call him up for one month. He appealed on 15 Dec 1916 but this was dismissed. His solicitor then applied for the case to be reconsidered by the appeal tribunal as his employer had died but this was dismissed.
