Summary of case: He was originally granted temporary exemption to enable his father to find a substitute worker. The business supplies over 700 gallons of milk as well as vegetables to the military hospitals and barracks; the father has suffered a stroke and the only other worker is over 70. It proved impossible to find another man but the local tribunal felt that he should nevertheless serve. Armstrong appealed against this decision.
