The military representative appealed against this on 5 Dec 1916. The exemption was withdrawn as from the 2 Apr 1917 with leave to reapply. Burnett reapplied and the process was adjourned on 18 Dec 1916 so that the Whitby & District Butchers' Association could meet. Their report was sent on 25 Jan 1917 and stated that they felt no further Master Butchers could be spared.
