Summary of Case: Initial appeal by Burnett was on 16 Jun 1916 and was accepted conditional on his remaining in present employment and in the Volunteer Training Corps. The military representative appealed against this on 5 Dec 1916. The exemption was withdrawn as from the 2 Apr 1917 with leave to reapply. Burnett reapplied and the process was adjourned on 18 Dec 1916 so that the Whitby & District Butchers' Association could meet. Their report was sent on 25 Jan 1917 and stated that they felt no further Master Butchers could be spared. This was put to the Appeal Tribunal when the case was reheard and the military appeal dismissed.
