Summary of case: The local tribunal had previously granted him exemption which the military representative had appealed against and that appeal had been successful, and his certificate had been withdrawn. The appeal to the County Tribunal was for reinstatement of his exemption certificate. ‘Firstly because of my inability through my having a chronic illness, to attend to my farming, gardening and butchery business, all my other three sons are now in the army and I am solely depending upon this son to carry on my business at such times as I am totally unfit and unable to get about….secondly, I have 16 acres of mixed land about five or six acres is the large, I have eight head of cattle and two horses also 200 fowl daily requiring much and close attention added to this I have milk round. I am entirely dependent upon this son both as ploughman for my land and for the slaughtering necessary for the carrying on of my business.’
