Age: 23
Address: 3, Harrison Street, York
Occupation: Carter
Local tribunal: York City Council
Central tribunal: No
Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Attested
Grounds for appeal: Not stated
Appellant: S S Reynolds , Military Representative
Summary of case: Local tribunal had granted him a certificate of exemption whilst in the employment of Mrs Mary Beaumont, Coal Merchant, widow whose son is in the Army, as a coal carter. Military representative had appealed to the local tribunal on the grounds that he had left this employment. The local tribunal reused the military application in November 1916. The military representative then appealed to the County Tribunal stating that the man had a disjointed employment record. The local tribunal stated that he had only left his employment for two to three days and they did not see this warranted the withdrawal of his certificate. The claimant is the only man in the business which would have to be closed if he joined the forces. There is a supporting letter from Mrs Beaumont stating that she has passed the whole management of the business to him and he would be a serious loss. The military representative contends that the man should be serving as he is not in a certified occupation and only 23 years of age
