Summary of case: His widowed mother has three sons, one is permanently invalid, and one daughter, ran a farm of 130 acres both arable and cattle. The local tribunal had granted temporary exemption twice and on the second occasion had granted exemption to 1 January 1917 conditional on him joining the Volunteer Training Corps and making no further appeal to the local tribunal but only to the County Tribunal. The local tribunal said that one of her sons should join the Army for the sake of equality of sacrifice. His mother in her evidence stated that as a woman farmer she is most unfairly dealt with as compared with men farms.
