Summary of case: ‘(1) My other two brothers are in the army. It would cause great hardship if I had to go, because my wife and two children are entirely dependent on my earnings. (2) On medical grounds. I suffer considerably from my legs and feet, and I consider that military work would make them worse. In May, June and July 1916 I had an illness (abscesses and diseased jaw bone, which necessitated an operation). I still feel the effects of this.’
