Summary of case: Appealed on the grounds that it was not in the national interests that Leng should remain in his present occupation as the holding was large enough to warrant his exemption as his wife could not carry on the business if he were called up. In his appeal to the local tribunal Leng stated that he was the only man on the farm and it is impossible to get anyone to work it for him. The local tribunal decision in Oct 1916 granted exemption on the condition that he join the Voluntary Training Corps. The military Representative appealed against this decision.
