Summary of Case: Logan is indispensable and they could not replace him. There is only one other male employee in the York shop who had originally been rejected for the army. Logan has to carry very heavy parcels and it would be impossible for a boy or an elderly man to undertake this work. Although the firm has 38 workers only two men are employed. Logan has six children; five under the age of fifteen years and his wife is in a weak state of health and hasn’t recovered from the shock of an air raid in Dringhouses. He is a member of the York Volunteer corps, now the 2nd Battalion North Riding Volunteer Regiment.
