Summary of Case: Harrogate office of Henry Hardcastle, pawnbroker’s state that Parker is indispensable. In addition to pawnbroking the firm sells ‘men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, bedding, workmen’ tool, hardware, etc.’ he only other employees of this large branch is one female who ‘cannot be expected to deal with an awkward customer, and an 18 year old youth who will be called up soon, and who is not allowed to act in the pawnbroking pledges. The firm has already had 80% of its employees taken for the army or munitions work and the firm has undertaken to have them back after the war, which can only happen if the business remains open. Parker is also a member of the V T C.
