Summary of case: ‘I appeal because I am prepared to let my eldest son Joseph join the army as he wishes to do instead of my younger son Robert who lives with me at home and has worked with me all his life. And, for the sake of his mother’s health, who has severe nervous debility and I am afraid of her health giving way altogether, in case our younger son is taken.’ The local tribunal had ‘exempted the married son Joseph on condition that he worked for his father and released the single brother Robert for the army.’
