Summary of Case: Domestic and financial grounds. He is in debt and his wife is in poor health and four children to support. She ‘has not been able to do for herself and children for over two years.’ The army allowance will only be 25 shillings a week for his wife and children. Half of this will go to someone ‘to do for them.’ His current wage is 38 to 39 shillings a week of which his wife receives 33 shillings plus extras, and I find the clothes and boots out of my pocket money. I don’t mind going on munitions if you can find me a place.’
