Summary of case: “I have a farm of 85 acres of which 65 acres are arable. I only employ two men on the farm. One is a horseman who has been exempt and the above named Miles Jefferson. We are milking eight cows apart from keeping other beasts usually feeding from ten to twenty. I also keep sheep during the present season having 100. I also keep the stud bull for the York and Ainsty District. Miles Jefferson is solely responsible for the tending of the cattle and the sheep and also the stud bull in addition to which he tills the land and assists in harvest. I have lost my right arm and cannot personally do any work on the farm. This man is absolutely necessary if I am to continue to carry on my farm.”
