Summary of case: Local tribunal said that he was one of 4 sons, none of whom were in the Army and he should join the Army at once. His mother's appeal was based on the fact that her other three sons were engaged in war work, two as analytical chemists on munitions, the other had been rejected for the Army and was a surveyor at Eldon Colliery. This son was medically examined in 1915 and rejected but since passed for sedentary work. He also is an authorised despatch rider for the Police. She stated that she could not run the business without him.
