Local tribunal thought that there were sufficient butchers in Redcar and the man could be dispensed with without any inconvenience. Completed central tribunal form but refused permission to appeal. Letter received 15 Nov 1916 objecting to this and quoting another butcher who was given conditional exemption. ‘Now Sir have I to fight to keep his business over his head while my wife and child are to exist on 17/6 [17 shillings and 6 pence] out of which 10/- [10 shillings] per week is condemned for insurance etc. The Redcar public say No and as an Englishman I want Justice’
