Summary of case: Thubron aged 70 and in very bad health states that his farm is 179 acres with 38 beasts, 22 of which are milk cows, 10 horses, 72 sheep and 6 pigs. Previously had four men, now has two. The local tribunal did not controvert the statements made by the appellant but said that the man was young healthy and single and that they thought his place should be taken by an older man but no evidence was given of any attempt to do so. In the appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal he additionally states that he has advertised for women to fill Turner’s post had no replies and those sent by the local committee were entirely unsuited for farm work and would not have the work. Other members of his family and staff had already joined the army.
