Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Attested
Grounds for appeal: a) continue in current occupation, d) serious hardship
Appellant: E Hamilton, Recruiting Officer
Summary of case: ‘This officer asks that h should be exempt from overseas service on compassionate and civil occupation grounds. Major Redman being an officer drawing pay from the army his duty is to devote the whole of his time to service of the state and not in any way to continue in his civil occupation. The compassionate grounds adduced are that he has a wife and four children. The military authorities cannot understand this officer’s objection to overseas service as he stated at the local tribunal if posted to an electrical emergency unit of the Royal Engineers he was ready to go abroad, Therefore it would seem his appeal is not to go for overseas service with his own battalion.’
