Summary of case: The case papers were sent to the Central Tribunal. In a statement from the Clerk of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal to the Central Tribunal he states: ‘The attested man Percy Hart, is single, aged 27, and was employed by a naturalised British subject at the outbreak of war as a confidential clerk. The employer was a German Consul in Middlesbrough, and was engaged in shipping, holding the principal interest in the Rahtken Shipping Company Ltd. After the outbreak of war Mr Rahtken and his son who assisted him in the business were interned in London, whilst his other two sons are believed to be interned in Germany as British subjects, and Hart is the only person left who has any knowledge of Mr Rahtken’s private affairs, or of the affairs of the shipping company, of which he is now acting Secretary, and assisting Mr Rahtken’s solicitors in looking after his employers private affairs.’
