Summary of case: Asking for total exemption as ‘I have four brothers already serving, and are all on active service. Two are in France and two in Salonica. Another brother will soon be liable for service as he is turned 18. I am practically the only son at home and my father and mother, 64 and 65 years respectively, I am sorry to say can neither read or write, and naturally they do not like to trouble anyone outside to reply to, or read any letters received from my four brothers at the front. You will notice that we are not a family of ‘shirkers’ as all of them listed before the Service Act came into force.’
