Summary of case: Head Gardener for past 21 monthÂ’s solely growing fruit and vegetables for the soldiers and sailors. He works single handedly sowing, growing and harvesting. He feels that it is in the national interest that he continues in the present employment. He has a wife and three children under 11, and also a child of his wife's, whose previous husband was killed in the war. He is close to the age limit, and has expected to be called up and has made little provision for his dependants. His two brothers have been seriously injured in the war and one unlikely ever to be of much use to themselves, and he has a nephew serving.
