Cave's duties included posting bills at heights of 50 feet 'and it would be impossible for a very old man or for female labour to be engaged thereon'. Cave was also an NCO in the North Riding Regiment of Volunteers and was in charge of the National Mobilisation Scheme in a Ward. He followed up his appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal with an application for permission for leave to appeal to the Central Tribunal.
