Summary of case: Kidd was the eldest child and had two brothers and a sister. One brother was already in the Army: his other brother earned a small wage. Kidd claimed that he was the main financial support to his widowed mother, who weighed 20 stone and was subject to frequent heart attacks, and provided much of the food for the household. The local tribunal had granted a temporary exemption, final, to 6 Nov 1916. Kidd was trying to get the word ‘final’ removed.
