Summary of case: Dent sought absolute exemption at the local tribunal. He was given two exemptions, to 1 Jun 1916 and then to 1 Aug 1916, acknowledging the farm would suffer some inconvenience and loss. However the local tribunal knew that Dent Senior had taken on several business in Scarborough and York, had secured exemption for several other employees and it was suggested that he should reduce some of his activities, so that Dent jnr could go. He had already had three months to make arrangements.
