Summary of case: Ernest Hayton had been granted three months' exemption by the local tribunal on 4 May 1916. The military representative had not agreed to the local tribunal extending this. Thomas Hayton's appeal said he had five sons. Two were in the army, another in the navy and a fourth had been rejected. Also, health reasons meant he relied on his son Ernest to keep his farm running to ‘assist the national interest’. He said he did not consider his case had had ‘fair consideration’.
