Summary of case: The local tribunal had allowed exemption to 23 Oct 1916; Metcalfe’s employer, Harold Moore, had said he was facing a busy time with making cheese and salting pigs. Metcalfe had always done the salting and cutting up and losing him would mean financial loss for Moore. The military representative had appealed, on the grounds that it was inexpedient; also that the ‘procedure of the local tribunal in this case not in accordance with the meaning of the regulations’.
