Summary of case: Anthony Fawcett had had temporary exemption to 1 Jul 1916 and the local tribunal had agreed to a further exemption to 1 Jan 1917. He helped his brother work their mother's farm; three of her older sons had already joined the army, so she had ‘already done her duty’; W R Fawcett also said his health was not good enough to run the farm himself. He had sent an appeal form, to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal but he states in a letter of 29 Aug 1916 that this had been returned to him, which presumably is why it is not included in the case papers.
