Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 1556 Appeal against conscription of: Moses Noble Age: 30 Address: Londesboro Farm, Seamer Occupation: Studsman, horseman, ploughman etc Local tribunal: Scarborough Rural District Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Attested Grounds for appeal: a) continue in current occupation, e) exempt occupation Appellant: Edgar H Robinson Summary of case: The principal and usual occupation of the attested man is a certified one entitling him to exemption from military service. He is our studsman, horseman, ploughman and waggoner. We are very short handed as our waggoner was called up on the 4 Aug 1916 and we did proceed with our application to the local tribunal in respect of the waggoner in the hope that we should be allowed to retain the services of the attested man. He is a skilled stallion man and travels and looks after our valuable stallion "wait see" which has served nearly 100 mares this season. Our farm is in part a stud farm and the attested man has successfully foaled seven mares this season for us, and we expect there will be 14 mares in foal in the coming season. He attends to 26 horses on the farm and breaks young horses as well as doing farm work. He is an extremely useful man and it is submitted that his services are of more national importance in his present position than if called on for army service. Supporting evidence: No Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 4 Sep 1916. Dismissed. |
