Summary of case: “This man is exclusively engaged in military canteen work which we conduct under authority of the Board of Control of Regimental Institutions. This is work for which women are unsuitable and in many instances excluded by the Officers Commanding under Army orders serving soldiers are prohibited from being engaged in canteen work and pensioners or infirm soldiers are not at present available. Claim is made conditional on pensioners not being available.” Pellett’s employers have already lost 24 members of staff in the previous three months and they feel they cannot continue the contract if they lost any more.
