Summary of case: I cannot accept the decision of the local tribunal as it is impossible for me to take human life directly or indirectly. Perhaps I did not make myself quite clear to the local tribunal, therefore, I take this opportunity of stating that I regard all armed warfare as the complete negation of all that I reverence in humanity. Westerley went before the medical board and was rejected as unfit, and he withdrew his appeal.
