Summary of case: Local tribunal dismissed appeal of Mr Pybus who stated that Mr Turnbull, who assisted with the milking and delivering milk, was needed as he was short staffed and could not get anyone in his place. Local tribunal evidence to North Riding Appeal Tribunal was that they thought that an older man or woman might be found to do the work or ‘that a soldier might be obtained for the purpose’. Mr Pybus stated that he was supplying the camp with 60 gallons of milk daily. It was very difficult for him to get any milking done. He had had Turnbull to Richmond where he had only passed fit for labour at home, also he is doing what until a few months ago was a starred occupation hence his request for total exemption. Milk becoming daily scarce and very necessary to the food supply.
