Also stated that he had served four years as a volunteer in the 4th Yorkshire which expired some time before war broke out and had not seen active service. (The appellant made no reference to army service in his appeal.) His appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal was that he was now the sole managing director of the business since his brother was engaged in naval war work and three former men have joined military or munitions work leaving only female employees. If he was called up the business would be ruined.
