Summary of case: Local tribunal gave him exemption to 17 Sep 1916. Father stated that he could not do the heavy work on which he and his wife was dependant, also that they made and repaired agricultural implements and shoeing farm horses. Local tribunal stated that the man divided his labour between his father's business and the foundry at Loftus. There are two other blacksmiths within one and half miles and that the father could do the repairs. William Hart is a single man. In the appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal HartÂ’s father maintains his argument that this is work of national importance and the business would cease if his son was taken.
